Before the moon gets too high…

That’s what I think about when I’m active in doing astrophotography with one of my two telescopes. Because the light of the moon can swamp the dimmer light of the nebula that I’m trying to catch digitally. There are filters, of course that you can use and I do use them. But they cut down the amount of light reaching the sensor in the camera that I use so that means I have to take more exposures to get a decent picture.

The moon itself, of course, is fascinating, especially when viewed through a telescope. With enough imagination, you can see yourself walking on its surface. Exploring its many craters. Kicking up dust. Jumping. But be careful! Jump too high and you’ll go into orbit.
